Pen Pals for Peace is a way to link children of different nationalities through Literacy, Environmental Awareness and Global Studies to increase understanding of one another’s cultures, customs, values, and family traditions.Friendship Schools

Here’s how Pen Pals for Peace works.

School principals, teachers and kids can request for their school to be a Friendship School. Once a school is designated as a Friendship School by the Global Friends Foundation, kids can write to children at other schools around the world with their ideas about friendship, what they have in common, how they care for the environment, and what peace means to them.Literacy prompts for the children to write about could be:

1. What’s your school day like?
2. What’s your favorite subject?
3. What’s your favorite thing to do after school?
4. What is the most unusual place you’ve ever visited?
5. What is your favorite dinner?
6. What country would you like to travel to, and why?
7. Do you have any favorite customs you participate in?
8. What is one of your favorite family traditions?
9. How do you promote peace at your school, or on the playground?
10. If your voice could be heard to all the people around the world, what would you tell them to help have a more peaceful world?
11. How do you help Mother Earth at home, at school or in your community?
12. If you don’t do it now, what would be your idea to help the environment and make Mother Earth a better place to live?

You will send your letters to the school address listed on our website. If you would like to enter our contest to become a Global Friends Ambassador, write an essay about number 6-12 listed above and send your essay to the address on the ‘Contact’ portion of our website. Remember, it can be a class letter, too, where all your ideas are written on one letter – or you can just write yourself! Send pictures or drawings. Be sure to write a caption for your drawings and be sure to include your contact information.

Our friend Travis, who you may have met in a Travis Travels™ video or book, will read these along with a group of educators. Send us your BEST WORK and we will share it on our website.

You never know if you will get a letter back from Travis, or a surprise sent to your school, or get a visit to your school for the very best letters and pictures sent in.

You will hear back from Travis and the group of educators who reads all the essays if you are chosen as one of our Global Friends Ambassadors.

If you are interested in your classroom or school being designated as a Friendship School, just send an e-mail to: admin@globalfriendsfoundation.org. It’s that simple!
